The sizing of Levi's has changed and the size I have worn for over 30 years just doesn't fit me any more and it's not that I have gotten fat.

These jeans are just like my husband started wearing in the 50s - they still shrink to fit him perfectly. The only difference we've noticed (other than the price, of course) is that they aren't as stiff as they used to be. I wash them a couple of times before he wears them (there is no way he would wear them for 6 months without washing!) and they will gradually fade, crease and wear until they are no longer wearable. Great product - the only kind he will wear! Also wonderful customer service!

While I appreciate all of the denim styles and fits Levi brand has provided over the years, it's very important to be able to purchase the original jeans that started it all. There is nothing sturdier, more timeless and recognizable than the men's shrink to fit buttonfly 501's. All of us, guys and gals alike, grew up wearing them. I love all the phases of aging they go through. It takes years and years to completely wear out a pair of them, and each stage of the fading and texture has its own charms. I also appreciate that people of ANY AGE CAN WEAR THEM and they never look dated or inappropriate. Plus it's getting harder to find 100 percent cotton jeans in recent years (hint, hint, please consider more styles in 100 percent cotton:~), so the full cotton content is another reason to love these jeans.

These button fly are the ONLY jeans I could find in the desired 32x31 size. Wish they had that size with a zipper. Shrink to fit waist and length were fine, but leg cut is so tight that we will return the two pair of jeans we have yet to wash. What a disappointment.

I bought these jeans because I was fascinated by the raw, unsanforized jean. I read that I could essentially dry the pants on my body to get a 'perfect' fitting jean. I was really looking forward to this as I like a tighter fitting jean but I have very muscular legs that make the 511 way too uncomfortable. I typically wear a 30x30 in Levi's and I went with a 31x32 based on the Shrink-to-Fit guidelines. I washed them in hot water in my bathtub based on advice from a few blogs. I pulled them out after an hour or so, air dried them, towel dried them, then threw them on my body to let them dry further. Only problem was that the jeans were way too baggy. I eventually ended up just throwing them into my dryer on high heat to see if I could shrink them some more. In the end, they fit very loose. I would recommend going with your normal waist size and 2 inches for your inseam (maybe less). I'm going to try washing them again in hot water and high heat to see if I can shrink them further before dooming them to the back of the closet.
Also, these are really heavy jeans. I wouldn't recommend them for Floridians.
I should also mention that these are quality jeans. Feel like they would last for years. Just wish they fit me better.

But it is wonderful! Real unwashed Levi's jeans MUST be very stiff as they all used to be before 1984. You used to buy Levi's jeans and jackets unwashed and very stiff and then broke them in yourself.

always loved 501s. always shrank to fit. ordered this pair to replace a pair to be retired. thighs painfully too tight right off the bat. i didn't gain 20lbs since wearing the old ones the other day. disappointed - what happened to 501s??

I have worn 501 shrink to fit jeans since I was in high school back in the early 80s, and will probably continue to wear them for the rest of my life. They fit well, and they are tough enough to handle the work that I do in them. I liked using the web sight to order because not only did I not have to search stores to find my size but they were less expensive.

this is my first pair of levis shrink to fit jeans so still experimenting with right size, but so far love them. fit great except really big in the butt. sizes run true. still breaking in. no complaints so far

Say it again. Can't believe how much thinner the denim fabric is compared to original 501 jeans. Cut is the same, there good fitting jeans but not sure on the longevity of the jeans compared to the older ones. No wonder why they tell ya not to wash em? LOL!

Having bought one recently, I found the fit a bit too big at first. But since reading through some websites on how to shrink to fit them, preserve their color & personalize them, I have grown to love these jeans. Creases will form, fades will follow & legs will twist, but it's all part of the raw jeans phenomenon

The Original Rigid 501s are the best. Still the way they were in the 1970's when I was growing up. Unlike so many products that are no longer made as well as they once were, Levis still have that quality feel. I love them and wear them every day.

I like the finish of these shrink-to-fit 501's, but the fit is baggier than previous pairs. My previous shrink-to-fit 501's were made in Mexico and fit a little slimmer. These were made in Egypt and the legs are definitely baggier. The leg openings are about 3/4" bigger and the length is 1-1/2" longer. More consistent sizing would definitely help out.

I followed the instructions for shrinking. I ordered 38, 34s as I wanted them to end up at 37 in the waist and 31 or so in the length. The waist is really snug, like maybe a 36 now, and the length is just a hair long. I guess overall, I am pleased, and would probably order another pair in the future. I just wonder why you don't make a 37 in waist as your waist sizes go 30, 31 32,33,34,36 and the jump to 38.

I wanted the real mccoy. I found it except id prefer the zipper fly. normally wear a 34 x 32, i got a 36 x 36 and feel safe these will be perfect in time. i had tried a 35 x 34 but after just 2 washings were to tight and showed to much leg once sitting down. once you find the right size to shrink to your desire you wont be displeased.

After buying numerous 501 jeans looking for, and finding, the best fit, I got the Original Shrink-to-fit 501. To my total amazement, they shrank to fit perfectly and gave me some room in the thigh that other Levi's don't. They are the only 501's made in Egypt where they know how to cut a comfortable pair of jeans.

These are the jeans I've been wearing for decades. You MUST shrink them. to do this, wash in the hottest water possible, then dry at the highest heat for an hour, and immediately wear them. I wear them for at least a month before the next wash.
They are the best fitting off-the-rack jeans money can buy. I refuse to wear anything else!
