Alrich Wool Workshirt - Medium Heather Grey

Our take on traditional workwear—in a comfortable fit and heavy-duty wool, it works like a jacket, but looks like a shirt. So, whether you're outdoors or in, it's a top-choice layer that'll probably never get a day off.

I really liked the way this shirt looked in the pictures and am generally a fan of wool because of its natural antimicrobial properties and its ability to insulate even if damp/ wet; however, after receiving the shirt, I noticed how ridiculously small the buttons are. Another reviewer pointed this out, but I decided to order it anyway and judge for myself. I put the shirt on and tried to button it up, only to struggle for several minutes as my fingers kept slipping off of them. I have medium-sized hands and can't imagine how someone with large hands would find the buttons useable. Also, as the other reviewer mentioned, this shirt pretty much feels like burlap. I understand that being a work shirt its supposed to be "rugged", but shouldn't it also be comfortable? I noticed the shirt ran a little big. I ordered a small (I'm 5'8, 155lbs) and it almost fit like a medium. I ended up returning the shirt due to the combination of these problems (buttons, feel, size). If you don't plan on using the buttons and the feel of wearing a brillo pad doesn't bother you much, then you might want to give this shirt a try. Otherwise, I'd say pass it by.
No, I do not recommend this product.

I was looking for a CPO type shirt and found a great example in Levi's Alrich wool shirt. The color is slightly darker than pictured. I'm an XL in most shirts (44R suit) and ordered an XXL in this as I wanted to wear it as an outer layered garment. Surprisingly it fits very well, not at all too big. This leads me to think it may run a tad bit small but it could just be the larger end of the sizing run.
The weight of the fabric is a compromise between outdoor only and indoor/outdoor appropriate. It's a nice work wear piece but not thick pea-coat or CPO shirt/jacket weight. It's much lighter than that making it more versatile in my opinion. Some melton wool CPO shirts are just too heavy to wear indoors. Not the case with the Alrich shirt. It is not a fine gauge cashmere-soft Merino wool (nor is it designed for that purpose) so I prefer a long sleeve garment underneath. An overly soft wool wouldn't work well as a work wear outer garment so the Alrich's fabric is a functionally correct choice.
It has some unique details like the navy blue strip to which the buttons are attached. The buttons are a rich dark brown which look great against that navy strip and light gray wool, however, they are the smallest buttons I've seen on a shirt like this. For a wool shirt with work wear roots designed to be worn outdoors, small buttons seem an odd choice. Clearly, I'm nit picking here and with that said, it's far from a deal breaker. I may replace the buttons down the road just so I can operate them easier with gloves. Without gloves, it's not an issue worth mentioning.
In the end, it's a well made, good looking, durable and versatile garment. At MSRP it's a good investment. At the current sale price it's a must-buy and one of the best values of the Fall-Winter season.
I recommend this product!

Sadly, I had to return this shirt. Although I like the style, for the price, I had expected a heavier, better quality wool with lining. It hardly seems durable enough to be deemed a workshirt. And contrary to the sizing chart, it runs a bit tight in the chest. Overall, I was disappointed.

Beautiful shirt, but it's not slim-fitting

Very beautiful wool shirt. The color is a little bit darker than what you see from the picture. And it's not slim-fitting, it has even a tag saying it's standard fit. Size large has 24 in armpit to armpit. The bad thing about this shirt is the uncomfortable "prickly" sensation, very common in wool fabrics. If it's a problem for you, avoid this shirt, or wear it with an undershirt.
I recommend this product!

Thanks for your feedback, Hylian. I updated the copy and separated it from the other Alrich workshirts since it is a different fit and fabric. It's a sharp shirt (pun intended - ha!), so it's always best to wear something under wool.

@Anonymous: it's just a little roomy in the chest area. Actually it runs true to size for a regular fit size large. The point is Levi's has first announced it as slim-fitting. Then after my review they've updated the item description with the correct information about the fit. And do not follow the size chart. Size L has 48 inches for chest measurement instead of 44.
